Outreach

April Monthly Mission Project - Each month our church family works together to collect items and funds for a specific mission project, chosen by the Mission Committee & Church Staff. This month, we are collecting items for Refugee One to assemble Bathroom Kits. Refugee One serves refugees who are brought to the United Sates through the State Department and sent to Chicago for resettlement. Refugees are defined by the State Department as individuals who have fled their home country and cannot return because of a well-founded fear of persecution based on religion, race, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. The United Nations estimates there are currently more than 65 million refugees in the world.
Bathroom Kit items requested include (full or partial kits welcomed) -
  • Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Cars of Soap
  • Toilet Paper
  • Shower Liner
  • Feminine Supplies (pads only)
  • Towel set (bath, hand & washcloth)
  • Disposable Diapers (any size)

The United Methodist Book of Discipline defines outreach as giving attention to the local and larger community ministries of compassion, justice and advocacy.  Every summer, our senior high youth travel to Appalachia to work in teams with the Appalachia Service Project. In recent years, we've also sent multi-generational teams to New Orleans, Haiti, the Bahamas, Henderson Settlement, ASP Flood Relief, and Kenya.
